Laundrobar - Manjimup

The opening of a new laundrobar in Manjimup this Friday has addressed concerns within the community following last week’s closure of Manjimup Spotless Drycleaning.
Manjimup Laundrobar is set to launch its washing and drying services on Brockman Street this week after being ready to open for the past six months.
Top Group WA director and Manjimup Laundrobar owner Davyd Hooper said he wanted to delay the opening of the business to avoid competition with Manjimup Spotless Drycleaning.
“We’ve had the laundrobar ready for some time but we held back from completing the work until now because we didn’t want to hurt their business,” he said.
Mr Hooper said the only work remaining was for the plumbers to commission the gas, which was set to be completed today.
Mr Hooper said he believed the laundrobar was viable despite rising costs in utilities.
“We believe there is enough business to support it,” he said.
“There’s going to be ebbs and flows but I think that especially during the busy tourist season, there’s going to be a huge demand for it.”
Mr Hooper said he also hoped to eventually establish a coffee service within the laundrobar.
“The obvious priority is to get the laundry up and running, but I believe the laundrobar is a good opportunity to open a coffee shop in the area,” he said.
“Initially we would start off on a small scale with a coffee machine and a hot drinks offer.
“Eventually serving food also isn’t out of the question.”
Manjimup Community Resource Centre coordinator Ranui Donaldson said she believed the introduction of this service within the town centre was fantastic for the community.
“The laundrobar will benefit the continual flow of travelling workers and increasing grey nomads on tour,” she said.
“It will also be good for the hard working mothers who battle to get washing done during the cold South West winter.”
Mrs Donaldson said Manjimup Spotless Drycleaning was appreciated for its loyalty to the community.
“However as our visitors and residents continue to grow, so too do our service requirements,” she said.
Manjimup Backpackers owner Bernie Edwards said the new laundrobar would be essential for backpackers in the area.
